Music, Unit 2: Artistic Me

After choosing our picture for our inspiration, we thought about words that described our picture, words that said what the picture was doing and what was in the picture.  We then tried to give these words musical sounds.  Below is our composition that was inspired by our picture.  You can find the picture I chose in my music book.

Art- Grade 1- Unit 3
How can I make connections between my emotions and my artistic creations?  During my 3rd unit in art, I explored ways of planning and creating abstract sculptures to express different emotional experiences from my life.  I used lines, shapes and colors that represented my feelings using a variety of art materials.  I also learned how to use mindfulness exercises to connect to my emotions using my mind and body.  Here are some examples of my art making throughout this unit of inquiry:

"This artwork is about Mr. Sad. In Mr. Sad's day, when my sister broke my toy, I feel low sad. My sister teasing me, I feel medium sad. When my mom doesn't want to go somewhere I feel very sad. I showed the emotion by using zigzag line, curvy line, blue, black and green."

Unit 3: Music and Drama - Express Yourself

During our music time, we explored mime and music and how they connect to emotions

Here is my mime about being sad.

My group chose to make music with only our bodies.  Can you guess the emotion?

Unit 4 Music: Animal Songs

My song is about a butterfly.  In my song the butterfly is flying, drinking, sunning and standing.

Art- Grade 1- Unit 4
How, why, and when do we work together to make art?
We found out that working together takes many social skills including compromise, cooperation, and good communication.  We worked together not just to create art, but also to investigate new art skills, brainstorm ideas for artworks, and evaluate our artworks.  Using the “Creative Cycle” helped us to record our process of art making each time we worked with a new group.
