This Week In Grade 1CC

This week we finished our first unit about interactions. We talked about the importance of making good choices to build good relationships and how to resolve conflicts using Gecko’s Choices. Today’s Peace One Day school wide celebration was a fantastic culminating activity for this unit about Interactions. It was delightful to see students from different grade levels interacting through a variety of activities. We also unpacked our second unit of inquiry about weather. This unit focuses on the different components of weather and the effects of weather on people.  After the Pchum Ben holiday, we will be investigating the different kinds of weather.

In math we continue to practice counting forward and backward from 0-100.  Our class has been practicing counting independently, in pairs and as a class. At home you can encourage your child to practice counting in your mother tongue. Counting helps your child recognize number patterns and relationships.

In literacy, we continue to practice recount writing using connective words such as first, next, then, after that and finally. These words can help young writers stay focused on the sequence of events they are trying to tell in their story.

Thank You
v Thank you for helping your child translate the feeling word and numbers in your mother tongue on to the sheet that we sent home. If you have not done so, please make sure to complete the sheet and send it back to school before Friday’s  Pchum Ben holiday.
v Thank you also for sending us your empty, plastic water containers. Please continue sending them to school.

Sub Teacher
Tomorrow, Thursday and Friday I will be away from school. Miss Petra will be my substitute teacher. Please call the ES office if you are making special pick-up or drop off arrangements for your child during those days.

Book Week
Book Week is coming soon! Please start thinking about your child’s costume for the parade. If you happen to be traveling during the holiday you might want to pick up a costume where you will have more choices.

We also need volunteers to read stories in their mother tongue. Please email me as soon as possible if you would like to volunteer for this activity.

REMINDERS:
·      Monday, September 25-September 29: Pchum Ben Holiday NO School
School will resume on Monday, October 3.
·      Readers and Reading Log: Readers and reading logs need to be sent back to school daily.
·      Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the campus before 2:30 pm you also need to collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child. If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you collect your child from the clinic.

·      These are the things that your child needs to bring to school daily:
 yellow folder
 book and reading log
water bottle, snack and a hat
Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.
·      Please remind your child of their After School Activity for each day.
