This Week In Grade 1CC

Our first unit of inquiry, Weather, is off to a good start! The children are getting more excited inquiring into our unit as they become more familiar with the unit-related vocabulary words. This week’s unit investigation and class discussions focused on the different kinds of weather and their characteristics. Our class researched images of different weather conditions and saved them for the next IT project with Mr. Matt. We have been making daily predictions of the next day’s weather condition and recording indoor and outdoor temperatures using thermometers. The students also started exploring tracking and analyzing daily weather forecasts for Phnom Penh.

In math, we reviewed how to collect and record data using tally marks. Each child created individual graphs from data they collected from their survey. Our number work focused on single digit addition and subtraction from number stories the children wrote about. At home, please have your child count real objects that make sense to them. Have your child count their socks, counting by 2 or count the total number of fingers in their family, counting by 5.

Our class has been doing amazing reading and writing. The children continue to develop more confidence in reading and are taking more risks on their writing. We just finished writing our Weather Book and Fives Senses Weather poems. We also did our small group recount writing about Pchum Ben holiday. Well done, Grade 1CC!
Rain Investigation
Next week our class will go outside to have an authentic rain experience. It is quite tricky to schedule the exact day and time we are doing this activity, but we want to be prepared and ready so we can quickly head outside when it’s safe. If you would like your child to participate in this activity, please send your child’s rain gear (raincoat, rain hat, umbrella, rain boots and extra clothes) to school on Monday to be kept in the classroom until we get a chance go outside.

·      Readers and Reading Log: Readers and reading logs need to be sent back to school daily.

Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.
