This Week in Grade 1CC

We had a fun-packed week celebrating Book Week!  Each day was busy with students, teachers and parents involved in different activities. It was another successful Book Week at ISPP! Thank you to everyone for helping and for encouraging your child to dress up for our Book Character Parade. We appreciate your participation and enthusiasm in our school activities.

In class, we continue to inquire and explore the different kinds of weather and how they affect us. The children have been learning to research information and images of weather symbols and weather conditions in different countries.

Our writing workshops continue to focus on recount writing of events, procedural writing and conventions of print. In math, we continue to explore counting on and back. We finished working on our bar graphs and started exploring the concept of probability. Is it more likely or less likely to rain today? At home try to use the same language when you ask your child about the chances of events happening in your home.

Highlights of the Week
                                                    Book Character Parade

     Visiting Author
Our class enjoyed our read aloud sessions with Ellen Leou, our visiting author from Hong Kong.

                                                       Poem in Your Pocket
We found out how fun it is to read poems to each other. The children walked around the classroom to read and swapped poems with each other.

                                          Using Technology for Research
Our class has been learning to research information and images on the computer and iPads. Everyday we track and record the high and low temperatures in Phnom Penh.

                                                              Gallery Walk
We finally finished our Weather poster collages! The children did an amazing job collaborating on their project, which turned out amazing. We did a gallery walk to give everybody a chance to look at and wonder about each other’s work. Well done, Grade 1CC!

                                                       Rain Investigation
Next week our class will hopefully get to go outside to have an authentic rain experience. Hopefully, we will get a good a mount of rainfall next week. It is quite tricky to schedule the exact day and time we are doing this activity, but we want to be prepared and ready so we can quickly head outside when it’s safe. If you would like your child to participate in this activity, please send your child’s rain gear (raincoat, rain hat, umbrella, rain boots and extra clothes) to school to be kept in the classroom until we get a chance go outside.

REMINDERS:
·      Short Week: Monday, October 17th is a holiday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 18th.
·      Readers and Reading Log: Readers and reading logs need to be sent back to school daily.
·      Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the campus before 2:30 pm you also need to collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child. If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you collect your child from the clinic.

·      These are the things that your child needs to bring to school daily:
 yellow folder
 book and reading log
water bottle, snack and a hat
Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.
·      Please remind your child of their After School Activity for each day.

Have a great weekend!
