This Week in Grade 1CC

We had a fun-packed back to school week!

We continue to explore the different ways we communicate. We wanted to find out the difference between effective and ineffective communication systems. What does effective communication look like? What makes certain communication systems ineffective?

To find out, our class went outside to investigate how to send messages using different kinds of materials. The children worked in groups to think of how simple everyday objects and toys can be used as communication tools. Then our class discussed the effectiveness and ineffectiveness of the materials we used.

In literacy we continue to explore procedural writing through real life tasks. This week, our class made Hot CoCoa with Marshmallows. The children did an amazing job preparing their Hot CoCoa and explaining to the other teachers the step-by-step procedure.

In math, we continue to learn how to apply strategies in problem solving. We also started exploring 2-D shapes. The children are learning to name, draw and describe their basic 2-D shapes.

Highlights of the week:

Exploring Different Ways to Communicate
The children worked in groups to think of how to use different materials to communicate their message.

Procedural Writing
We are learning to write step-by-step procedure. Our class made Hot CoCoa with Marshmallows. It was delicious!

Online Survey
All the grade one students did an online survey to help us prepare our analog community for our unit.

Buddy Reading
Thank you, Miss Bridget class for another amazing reading experience with the Grade 4 class.

2-D Shape
What 2-D shapes do you see around you? Can you make shapes using your body?

REMINDERS:

·      Home Learning: Please make sure to sign your child’s reading log after you finish reading together.

·      Snack: I have noticed a few sweets in some of the snack boxes. Please prepare simple, healthy and manageable snack for your child. Crackers, cheeses, nuts, veggies and fruits are very popular with kids. Please do not send candies and chocolates to school.

·      Please have your child wear their shoes to school everyday. It can be uncomfortable and unsafe for your child running outside and walking up and down the stairwells with flip- flops on. They may wear or bring their flip-flops to school on Tuesdays when we have swimming.

·      Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the campus before 2:30 pm you also need to collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child. If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you collect your child from the clinic.

·      These are the things that your child needs to bring to school daily:
blue folder
 book and reading log
water bottle, snack and a hat
Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.
·      Please remind your child of their After School Activity for each day.

Have a great weekend!
