This Week in Grade 1 CC

It was another busy week in our class! Through research we continue to find out more about our unit of inquiry, Oceans. The children have been learning to research information for the topic they chose about ocean life. We have been looking at non-fiction books and the Internet such as Google Street View and DK Find Out. Our class also gathered information from our field trip last Friday. The next couple of weeks the children will organize all the information from their research and find out some of the issues that affect the oceans.

In math, we continue to explore the concept about Fractions. We have been sharing and dividing wholes into halves, thirds and fourths. We also explore fractions with doubles and even numbers as we learn fractions as parts of a set or group. Fractions make more sense to children when used in real life application such as sharing food or things. At home you can help your child practice fractions by involving them in food preparation when you cut or divide pieces of fruits or vegetables. Have fun with fractions!

Thank you to all our parent volunteers who helped supervise the class during our field trip.

REMINDERS:

·      We have swimming every Monday and PE on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

·      Readers and Reading Log: Readers and reading logs need to be sent back to school daily.

·      Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the campus before 2:30 pm you also need to collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child. If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you collect your child from the clinic. 

·      These are the things that your child needs to bring to school daily:

 yellow folder

 book and reading log

water bottle, snack and a hat

Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.

·      Please remind your child of their After School Activity for each day.
