This
week our unit of inquiry focused on exploring the concept of change. What is
change? What causes change? How does change affect us? Our class started
researching the different things that go through the process of change. The
children are beginning to find out about their wonderings that are connected to
the concepts for this unit of inquiry.
In
math, we have been exploring the concept of time. We are finding out what the
concept of time involves other than telling time on a clock or a watch. This week
we reviewed counting by 5 to help the children make a better understanding on
how the long hand or minute hand of a clock works compared to the short hand or
hour hand.
Our
writing workshop this week focused on personal narratives. The children are
learning to write about special events in their life incorporating details by
using descriptive words or adjectives. The children each wrote about a favorite
birthday they had in the past.
Highlights of the week:
Our class inquired into the concept of change through play. The children shared some of their favorite childhood toys and play activities. What a fun way to learn!
One way the students master concepts is by showing other students their understanding of a particular concept. This week the children worked with Miss Rachelle’s class to teach each other how to problem solve and work out number equations.
WORD INQUIRY
This week our class
investigated how action words or verbs are used in present and past tense. Mr.
Jon and Miss Mom showed our class how to play action word board games and sort
words into different categories.
Measure Me
This week our class explored measurement using non-conventional
tools. Students worked in pairs to make estimates and measurements of their
height.
REMINDERS:
· Home Learning: Please make sure to sign your child’s reading log after
you finish reading together.
· Snack: I have noticed a few sweets in some of the snack boxes. Please
prepare simple, healthy and manageable snack for your child. Crackers, cheeses,
nuts, veggies and fruits are very popular with kids. Please do not send candies
and chocolates to school.
· Please have your child wear their shoes to school
everyday. It can be uncomfortable and unsafe for your child running outside and
walking up and down the stairwells with flip- flops on. They may wear or bring
their flip-flops to school on Tuesdays when we have swimming.
· Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if
there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the
campus before 2:30 pm you also need to
collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child.
If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you
collect your child from the clinic.
· These are the things that your child needs to bring to
school daily:
blue
folder
book and reading log
water
bottle, snack and a hat
Children
need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during
outdoor P.E activities.
· Please remind your child of their After School
Activity for each day.
Have a great weekend!
