This Week in Grade 1 CC

We had quite a fun week!

In math we started exploring number patterns and patterns. What do patterns look like? Patterns are things that repeat over and over. We worked in small groups to create human patterns and worked independently to create and extend shape patterns. At home or when out with your child look for patterns and ask your child to explain their thinking.

In Literacy, we started to explore different kinds of poems. For the next few weeks our class will read poems everyday. The children will also attempt to write poems to go with some of their unit related projects.

The children are beginning to make personal connection to our unit of inquiry as they become more aware of how they are able to use different types of art forms to express their feelings and ideas. This week’s learning activities exposed the children to both visual and performing arts. The children have been exploring a variety of art materials and techniques to create their art projects. We have also been using different types of music as inspirational tool to create individual designs.

Highlights of the week:

Buddy Activity
Our class went to visit Miss Bridget’s Grade 4 class and read them the book we made, What Can You Do With Ten Black Dots? Miss Bridget really liked our books!

Exploring Music
We listened to different kinds of music with Mr. Jon. He also shared with us some of his favorite music and we all walked and danced to it. That was a lot of fun! Thank you, Mr. Jon!

 You’ve Got Mail!
Our class got our mail delivered to us! It was so exciting! For some of the children, it was their first mail to receive.

ATTENTION!

ELEMENTARY DRESS UP DAY- Thursday 26th January
Encourage your child to come to school dressed in their pajamas. It’s P.E. day for our class so please pack your child’s P.E. uniform.

INTERNATIONAL DAY-Saturday 4th February
Make sure to sign us for the parade and get in touch with your country representative to find out how you can help.
REMINDERS:

·      Please have your child wear their shoes to school everyday. It can be uncomfortable and unsafe for your child running outside and walking up and down the stairwells with flip- flops on. They may bring their flip-flops to school on Mondays when we have swimming.

·      Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the campus before 2:30 pm you also need to collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child. If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you collect your child from the clinic.

·      These are the things that your child needs to bring to school daily:
blue folder
 book and reading log
water bottle, snack and a hat
Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.
·      Please remind your child of their After School Activity for each day.

Have a great weekend!
