This Week in Grade 1 CC

We had a relaxed, fun and very busy week of learning!

Our class continues to explore ways to express different feelings through visual and performing arts. We inquired into positive and negative feelings and talked about personal connections the students make to different feelings. Why do some artworks make you feel a certain way? How do feelings affect someone’s artwork?
In math, we continue to investigate patterns. The children are exploring AB, AAB, ABB, AABB and ABC patterns. We have been using math manipulative tools such as pattern blocks, tiles and counters to create and extend color and shape patterns.  When you’re out and about, ask your child to look for patterns and ask them what kind of patterns they see.

In literacy, we continue to read poems and started inquiring into narrative writing. The children wrote color poems and used feeling words they associate certain colors with.

Highlights of the week:
Sounds and Music
This week, we listened to different types of music, tried some dance moves and experimented with different ways to make sound with our hands and feet. We even made kazoos from banana leaves and they made beautiful sounds.

The Little Red Hen
After watching a video of the story The Little Red Hen, the children worked in small groups to write their version of the story. This week, two of the groups presented their story to the class.

Writing Workshop
Miss Rachel, our ES Library teacher, came to our class and helped us inquire into narrative writing. She read us books and did a follow-up shared writing activity with our class. Thank you, Miss Rachel!

It's a beautiful day!
The weather has been absolutely beautiful these last couple of weeks! The children are really enjoying their time outside playing with their friends.

                                                                  ATTENTION!

SCHOOL HOLIDAY-Monday 30th January
School resumes on Tuesday, 31st January.

INTERNATIONAL DAY-Saturday 4th February
It's not too late to get in touch with your country representative to find out how you can help.

REMINDERS:

·      Please have your child wear their shoes to school everyday. It can be uncomfortable and unsafe for your child running outside and walking up and down the stairwells with flip- flops on. They may bring their flip-flops to school on Mondays when we have swimming.

·      Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the campus before 2:30 pm you also need to collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child. If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you collect your child from the clinic.

·      These are the things that your child needs to bring to school daily:
blue folder
 book and reading log
water bottle, snack and a hat
Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.
·      Please remind your child of their After School Activity for each day.

Have a great weekend!
