This Week in Grade 1CC

EXPRESS OURSELVES ART GALLERY

We had an amazing week in Grade 1!

Our class spent the week exploring new art experiences to express different emotions. The children continue to experiment with different materials and art techniques they find interesting.  We have also been doing small group art projects with Miss Dana, our Art teacher. Thank you Miss Dana, for the extra art time with you!

We explored a variety of traditional and modern dances across grade level. The children were introduced to Hakka, Coconut Dance, Break Dance, Body percussion and Hula Dance to show how body movements can express feelings and ideas.

In math, we continue to inquire into patterns and symmetry. The children explored color symmetry and created symmetrical designs using different shapes. We investigated place value using tens and ones and practiced writing addition and subtraction number problems.

In literacy, we have been exploring narrative writing. This week, we worked in small groups to write stories inspired by a realistic fiction book Miss Rachel, our Librarian read to our class.

Highlights of the week:

We celebrated our 100th day of learning last Wednesday!

NO SCHOOL
Monday, February 13th is a holiday. School resumes on Tuesday, February 14th.

REMINDERS:
·      We have swimming every Monday and PE on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
·      Readers and Reading Log: Readers and reading logs need to be sent back to school daily.
·      Pick–Up: You need to call or email Chantha in the ES office if there are changes in your child’s pick-up arrangement. If you are leaving the campus before 2:30 pm you also need to collect a gate pass (from the office) to be able to exit the school with your child. If your child is going home sick, the nurse will give you a gate pass when you collect your child from the clinic.

·      These are the things that your child needs to bring to school daily:
 yellow folder
 book and reading log
water bottle, snack and a hat
Children need to have a hat to be able to play on the field or participate during outdoor P.E activities.
·      Please remind your child of their After School Activity for each day.

Have a great weekend!
